Audition Workshop Announced by IFASA The Head of Television Casting and Feature Film Consultant for MGM Studios, Paul Weber, will be coming to Tucson, AZ to give a top-quality Workshop on Auditioning Techniques. Mr. Weber is currently working in Hollywood as a Casting Director and has credits which include The Hot Tub Time Machine, Stargate SG-1, Stargate Atlantas, Legally Blonde, Poltergeist, and many many others. If you are looking to audition for major projects, you will need to know what to expect, and how to be the most prepared. Learn what casting professionals expect from actors and what key elements are they looking for and why some actors succeed. You'll also learn about branding and marketing tips, protocol for contacting agents, managers and casting directors, and the most up-to-date information on what is expected from your Headshot and Resume. Dates for Pitch Fest Tucson Announced If you've ever dreamed of selling a film or TV idea to Hollywood, here is your chance. The UA Hanson Film Institute and the Tucson Film Office are presenting two opportunities that can make your dream a reality. The Art of the Pitch Workshop on Friday, April 20 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m., will teach you the dos and don'ts of pitching to professionals and will prep you for the first-ever Pitch Fest Tucson the next day. Pitch Fest Tucson on Saturday, April 21 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m., will place you one-on-one with entertainment industry professionals who will listen to your pitch and give you valuable feedback that will help you sell your pitch. The top three pitches, to be judged in private by the professionals, will win prizes. Both events are open to the public and take place at the University of Arizona Marshall Building, 845 N. Short Movie Workshop Announced Award-winning screenwriter and indie filmmaker Jana Segal, will teach a Short Movie Workshop for students ages 9-18. Use your own camcorders or cell phones to create short silent pictures with the fantasy world of Valley of the Moon as your set location. Learn acting for the camera, script writing, storyboarding, and simple rules of video production. Tucson Helmed Feature Screens at SundanceThe 2012 Sundance Film Festival recently screened Goats (which was mostly filmed in Tucson) and delighted audiences every time it played. This coming-of-age drama/comedy, directed by Christopher Neil, with a nicely subtle screenplay by ex-Tucsonan Mark Jude Poirier, stars David Duchovny, Vera Farmiga, Graham Phillips, Justin Kirk, and Ty Burrell. The Tucson Film Office congratulates everyone involved, and we're proud to have been a part of it. Hit PBS Series Uses Tucson Locations, Sounds The Tucson Film Office assisted Live from the Artists Den when they filmed an Amos Lee concert at the historic Fox Theatre on August 23rd. The show was a huge success, thanks in part to local legends Calexico, who served as backing band on a handful of songs. It was a lovely evening, which you'll see on these still photos captured beautifully by local photographers fotovitamina and C. Elliott. TFO Helps Chevy Sonic in National CommercialThe Tucson Film Office recently assisted Slim Pictures, along with Greg Gasson of the Tucson-based Sky Diving Stunts, to create this stunning ad for the new Chevy Sonic. The production required weeks of preparation, involving dozens of technicians skilled in handling such an unusual filming assignment, matched in size by the economic impact it brought to southern AZ. Be sure to catch it on TV during the Super Bowl this weekend. Tucson Filmmaker's New Flick Getting Raves The new documentary, Heist: Who Stole The American Dream, from Producer/Director --and TFO friend -- Frances Causey is playing at festivals across the country and receiving rave reviews in the process. Most of the post-production of this ground-breaking doc took place in Southern Arizona by talented professionals like Director of Photography Rogelio Garcia, Editor Sarah Sher, Sound Mixer Fred Porter and Colorist Bob Demers. Medrosa productions is looking for: Male 28-45, nationality unimportant. Must have the ability to deliver lines efficiently and with presence. A man that is a little weathered from a rough life, a competition fighter type, medium to large build. This is a character that has been fighting for many years in a futuristic yet renaissance-type era that is tired of "the game" but must compete at least this one more time. There will be only one actual physical fighting move, the rest will be dialogue and presence. Filming will take place March 16 and possibly 17 if needed. Extras of all ages are also needed to fill the "stadium" seating for the game for one night for a few hours. This will be a fun part of the shoot and you will be working with a fun crew.
