George Clooney Shoots His ConfessionsGeorge Clooney shot scenes for his directorial debut, Confessions of A Dangerous Mind, in Tucson and Nogales, Sonora in April. The Tucson Film Office teamed up with Mr. Clooney's production company and the Arizona and Sonoran Film Commissions in February to scout filming locations and to insure a smooth cross border shoot. "There was no border hold up whatsoever," said Nancy Haecker, Location Manager for Confessions. In Tucson, the company shot at the White Stallion Ranch while the nearby Lazy K Bar Ranch catered. Many local extras were hired, as were several other Tucsonans who rounded out the 85 person Los Angeles and Montreal-based crew. The movie casts Sam Rockwell (Charlie's Angels, The Green Mile) as Chuck Barris, the real-life creator of 70's game program The Gong Show, who in his "unauthorized autobiography," on which the film is based, claims to have also been an assassin for the CIA. We've Got To Stop Meeting Like This: MTV's Love Affair With Tucson Continues Pop culture icon MTV once again made Tucson a backdrop for not one but two of its hit programs-Flipped and I Bet You Will. The former has been dubbed a cross between Fantasy Island and Scared Straight, while the latter is a slightly less squeamish Fear Factor taken to the streets of America. Both shows will air episodes featuring Tucson and Tucsonans in wholly surprising and provocative scenarios. 
Two Local Filmmakers Earn Prestigious HonorsLiberata Me, a surreal exploration of suicide and redemption, was chosen to show at the 2002 Cannes Film Festival, as well as The New York Underground Film Festival. Writer/director Pearry Reginald Teo is currently busy prepping for his next film which will shoot later this year in Tucson. Another hometown success story is that of Benjamin Daniel Lobato, big winner at this year's Imagen Awards, which honors positive Hispanic portrayals in the media. Mr. Lobato's short film Mariposa Canyon was given a special award, allowing him to rub elbows with such luminaries as Esai Morales (NYPD Blue) and Penelope Cruz (Vanilla Sky).
